Josh

Hi, I’m Josh. I started Internal Consistency to improve relationships in work and in life.

Professional Experience

I have been in the measurement industry in both internal and external positions, developed numerous surveys, and analyzed mountains of data. As several mentors of mine have commented, I am able to dive into data, geek out with it, and still have a personality to convey it to non-technical stakeholders. I realized I was in the right field during my first week of my graduate level psychometrics (psychology + measurement) course. I have a Master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, which has allowed me to work in various stages of the employee life cycle: Selection to Exit Interviews. After an experience with a Michael Scott-like manager, I decided to pursue more education. As of early 2011, I’m close to finishing my coursework and one step closer to obtaining my Ph.D.

Me, Personally

During a workshop I was facilitating, one of the attendees told me that I was, “uncomfortably comfortable”. I’ve heard that before and I like it each time as much as the previous. As an obvious extravert, I live for large crowds and absorbing the energy from them. Whenever music is playing, I’m dancing because it is fun and because it entertains others. I do a lot of things for the sake of others, which is good considering I’m in the field of helping others. I very much identify with being a psychologist, just not the stereotypical psychologist.

I enjoy riding my motorcycle, aptly named Black Betty after the 1970′s song by Ram Jam. I’ve ridden to the Sturgis motorcycle rally several times. It only seems appropriate since I grew up in South Dakota.

I am proud to come from a blue collar family in the midwest. I believe in working hard to earn what I have, whether it’s possessions, or experiences. I’ve been through hardships and in moments where the water was so deep, I could only breathe through my nose. My father has instilled the ‘do what it takes’ attitude while my mom has instilled the ‘everything is going to be ok’ mind set.
